San Juan, VA Caribbean HCS Proffessional Development Workshop
Strive4You is proud to partner with the Recreational Therapy Program of the
VA Caribbean Healthcare System in San Juan PR, through the VA National Sports Program & Special Events FY22 Adaptive Sports Grant (ASG) to provide adaptive recreation and sports opportunities to veterans with disabilities. Through our Veterans Healthy Tomorrow Initiative, and both the ARISE & SEED programs of STRIVE4You, we will be implementing Adaptive Sports Days (ASD), Professional Development Workshops (PDW), SEED Intro To Self-Defense Workshops, and other exciting events across the country to hundreds of veterans, thanks to the partial funding through the ASG.
On April 24th from 8 AM -3 PM, we will be hosting a unique interactive professional development workshop at the VA Caribbean Healthcare Center. This workshop is designed to not only teach people how to adapt recreational and sports activities for veterans with disabilities, (specifically those with Low Vision/blind) but also to grant participants an incredible opportunity to experience an adaptive activity firsthand through the perspective of someone with a disability. A portion of the day will be spent engaging in simulation training, while the rest of the day will be spent in an interactive classroom-style learning environment. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to apply commonly used techniques for adapting activities for their veterans and become familiar with different types of adaptive sports equipment and vendors. As a bonus, participants will receive resource materials such as the STRIVE4You ARISE Actions to Inclusive Play training manual, and have the chance to earn professional CEU credits from ACVREP and other national agencies.
