Background Check Policy and Procedure

All employees or private contractors presenting on behalf of STRIVE4You or seeking certification in an official STRIVE4You program curriculum must satisfactorily pass a thorough background check with clear results facilitated by a third party approved by STRIVE4You. Background checks will be conducted on all outlined STRIVE4You representatives as deemed necessary during their application process prior to employment or acceptance into any instructor certification training program.

Background checks will include:

  • Social security verification: validates the applicant’s social security number
  • Criminal history: includes review of criminal convictions and probation. The following factors will be considered for applicants with a criminal history:
    • The nature of the crime and its relationship to the position
    • The time since the conviction
    • The number (if more than one) of convictions
    • Whether the STRIVE4You representative/applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, or its customers and vendors

Procedure

Candidates must complete a background check authorization form which will be sent to them upon the entry phase of the processing of their application. The form will be submitted to the third-party company to process the check, and the company will provide the results directly to STRIVE4You. A member of the STRIVE4You leadership team will review the background check and, if everything is found satisfactory, the candidate will move on to the interview process and will be contacted to set up said interview.

In instances where negative or incomplete information is obtained, the appropriate supervisor or director will assess the potential risks and liabilities related to the position’s requirements and determine whether the individual should be accepted. If a decision not to accept a candidate/applicant is made based on the results of a background check, the candidate/applicant will be notified in writing within 10 days as to the decision. If the candidate/applicant feels they have been unfairly dismissed they may appeal in accordance with the STRIVE4You Grievance Policy.

Background check information will be maintained in a secure file separate from personnel files for a minimum of two years. Background checks are reran every two years for quality and compliance purposes. Employee background checks will be paid for by STRIVE4You and those of the private contractor/instructors will be covered within their respective application fee. STRIVE4You reserves the right to modify this policy at any time without notice.
